The hardest question you can ask yourself:

Do you really know your needs?

A few years ago, I was sitting in bed with a woman. She said: “Today we’ll do anything YOU want.
And I gasped. Sounds tempting – but the next second I was hit by the bitter realization: I had absolutely no idea what I actually wanted.

That was a punch in the gut. I was overwhelmed. Because ignoring your needs means you are ultimately deceiving yourself. Whether it’s intimacy, peace, closeness or self-realization – if you don’t know what you really need, you become more and more empty, you only function and run blindly into exhaustion, even burnout, perhaps another illness or personal failure on other levels because you lack the strength. Denial has its price.

Today I know that true strength means being vulnerable. Whether in bed, in conversation or in business – no matter where. Real intimacy doesn’t come from superficiality or small talk, but from having the courage to open our hearts – first for ourselves, then for others.

My appeal to you:

  • Stop suppressing your needs.
  • Start to perceive them at all, to feel them.
  • Make yourself heard and show yourself.

Because life always finds a way to remind you – and often it’s a damn painful one.
