Many of us believe that we have no fears at all or that we at least have our fears well under control. In the new episode of Men in Crisis, we look at why this is often not the case and how fear controls us both consciously and unconsciously.
There was a situation on my last vacation that threw me completely off track: a snake in the bathroom on vacation. At that moment, nothing was rational anymore. My body took over, I froze, had no control and a movie was playing in my head that had nothing to do with reality.
And that’s exactly the point: fear feels real, even if it often isn’t. It arises in our heads, builds up scenarios and puts us in a state in which we can no longer think or act clearly.
This is not only evident in such extreme situations, but also in everyday life and in business. Existential fears, financial insecurity or the fear of failure can cause us to overreact, go into survival mode or make decisions out of fear instead of clarity.
At the same time, this is also an opportunity. Once we have lived through and “survived” such situations, something new emerges: trust. In ourselves and in our ability to endure difficult phases.
And maybe that’s exactly it: fear doesn’t disappear. But you can learn to deal with it differently.
New episode Men in crisis: Why fear is often only in your head, why it affects you more than you think and how you can regain control over your actions step by step.
